Getting Started
What kind of roles are available?
We offer a range of positions, from live-in carers and companions to nannies, housekeepers, and general home helpers. Each role varies in duties, hours, and required experience.
Do I need any special qualifications?
This depends on the nature of the help being provided. For nanny or care roles, formal qualifications are helpful but not always essential. Many of our carers have education or nursing backgrounds, while others bring valuable experience from different areas. We focus on matching the client’s needs with your skills and strengths.
Do you provide visa sponsorship?
At this time, we do not offer visa sponsorship. You’ll need to have the legal right to work in the UK before joining our community.
Matching and Working Arrangements
How do you match me to a client?
We collect information about your skills, qualifications, and preferences, then match you with the most suitable client to help ensure a harmonious working relationship. You’ll always have the chance to speak with and meet the client before starting, to confirm any details or questions. Of course, we’re here to support you throughout the process.
When will I work?
This varies from client to client. Some need year-round help, while others prefer shorter arrangements such as two or three weeks on, one week off. Working patterns, hours, and rest periods are agreed between you and the client. We’ll consider both parties’ preferences during the matching process.
What about travel and relocation?
For live-in positions, you’ll usually need to relocate. We’ll do our best to match you based on your preferences, and clients typically cover reasonable travel costs.
How long are placements?
Placements can range from short-term (a few weeks) to ongoing, long-term arrangements, depending on the client’s needs and your availability.
Can I take time off?
Yes. As a self-employed helper, you can agree time off directly with your client. Most live-in helpers work on a rotation pattern, but if you need time off you can agree this with your client and if you need support or cover we are able to assist with aranging this. We ask that you keep us appraised of any changes to working arrangements.
Pay and Administration
Who pays me?
You’ll be paid directly by your client. As a self-employed helper, you’ll be able to negotiate the exact terms directly with them though as part of the matching process we’ll have already identified a good fit and we’re happy to offer advice and guidance to finalise the arangements.
What will I be paid?
Pay rates depend on the nature of the role, your experience, and the client’s needs. We can provide guidance, and during the matching process we’ll have taken in to account yours and the clients preferences so that both parties terms and needs are aligned.
When will I be paid?
This depends on the agreement with your client, but payments are usually made weekly or monthly. You may need to issue a simple invoice and keep records for your own tax purposes.
What about tax, VAT, and pensions?
As a self-employed helper, you’ll need to register with HMRC and complete your own tax returns, or use an accountant to do this for you. Most carers are not VAT-registered, and pension arrangements are managed privately.
Do you take any commission or fees?
We don’t take any commission from your pay, we charge the client an ongoing managment fee. Any service fees are agreed and transparent upfront there are no hidden costs.
Support and Relationship Management
What support do you offer after I start working with a client?
We’re always available for advice and support if you have questions, concerns, or need help communicating with your client. Our goal is to help both you and the client enjoy a positive and lasting working relationship.
What happens if things don’t work out with a client?
Sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, a match may not be the right fit. If that happens, we’ll help mediate any issues and, if needed, look for a new placement that better suits your skills and preferences. We simply ask that you keep us appraised of how the relationship is going so that we can assist as soon as possible and ask that you are empathic to the needs of the client while we try to reach a resolution.
Practical Considerations
Do I need insurance?
It’s a good idea to have your own public liability insurance to protect yourself in case of accidents or claims. We can point you toward suitable options if needed.
Do I need a driving licence?
No, a driving licence isn’t essential, but it can be bonus. While many helpers do not drive it is benefitial to some clients. During matching, we’ll ensure the client’s requirements align with your abilities and situation.
Clients will often cover reasonable travel costs to and from your live in accomodation and travel related to your duties. In some cases they may have their own transportation / drivers.
